LUCKNOW PUBLISHING HOUSE
The Lucknow Publishing House, foremerly known as the Methodist Publishing House, was established in 1861, just five year after the establishment of the Methodist Episcopal Church, by William Butler. It was first located in Bareilly and after five years moved to Lucknow. For many years it was located in the heart of the city and in 1953, the Publishing House moved to its present location at 37, Cantonment Road, Lucknow as larger accommodation was necessary in the view of the expanding work of Publishing House.
Though in the beginning, Lucknow Publishing House main task was to assist in expanding the work of the Methodist Church and started Publishing many periodicals, News Papers such as Christian Education, Sundry School Materials, Indian Witness etc.. However in the prevailing condition it has limited itself to its own press but combines publishing, production and sales under one roof and is the largest Christian Publishing House in North India.
As an All India Institution, The Lucknow Publishing House, function under the Executive Council of the Methodist Church in India and is still the headquarter of all the Church Publications of the Methodist Church in India.
PRINTING
The printing department is equipped with binding department, Type setter and offset printing machine work under the direction of trained personnel. The letter press has faded away but the press has equipped itself with the modern equipments.
More than 50 percent of the press work is either for the Church or its related organisations. Out of this about two-third represents publishing and printing for the Methodist Church.
DISTRIBUTION AND PUBLICATION
The main distribution centre is at Lucknow. The Lucknow Publishing House Bookshop, again started functioning since 1987.
The Lucknow Publishing House deals mainly with printing and publishing work to cater the needs of the Churches, Institutions ofthe Methodist Church in India and provide reading materials to readers of North India at large. It publishes Methodist Hymnals, Rituals, all kinds of MCI forms etc. for Methodist Church in India and holds copyrights of many titles of various publications of the Church.
Besides publishing the devotional booklet the Upper Room in two languages, English and Hindi, several other books, especially on Religions, Educationals, Moral and Economic uplift are being published from time to time.
The Lucknow Publishing House also own the copyrights of many Biblical, Children, Youth, Women and other books on relegious and moral values and has long list of catalogue.
